In 1965 Drs Edi Handojo and Dra Kusumawati Handojo set up the drug store, Apotik Erlangga Semesta, at Jl. Erlangga Raya 26 Semarang. Then, in 1973 the factory PT Erlangga Edi Laboratories, (Erela), was built at Jl. Murbei 2, Semarang, Indonesia.

In 2018, the company decided to focus on vision products by expanding the sterile facility.
